Will "Shenmue 3" be around the promised date or is it way too much of a cry for the moon?

While the fanbase for "Shenmue 3" isn't exactly that big, its cult-following was big enough to break the Internet when it was first announced last year. Almost two years since the revelation, the upcoming game slowly became quiet.

On its official Kickstarter page, fans will see that from the initial $2 million target, it easily reached $6.3 million in a month, making the development a sure thing to happen.

As it indicates, the estimated delivery or release for the game is around December 2017, which is quite a stretch from when it was announced. This is mostly assuring, especially the manner it reached such amount of backers in such a small time.

However, with how it looks right now, December 2017 might be something way too good, especially with how people can observe. The last update for its Kickstarter page was made almost a month ago and though this means that the development is still in action, any actual gameplay footage wasn't made yet.

Gamesradar once covered a report about the producer of the game, Yu Suzuki, stating that the game needs $10 million to make a truly open-world game. Fans are anticipating a huge departure from the previous titles in the series, while not exactly straying too far away from its core mechanics.

The slight problem is, we haven't seen a single gameplay video aside from a few glimpses of the how the game will roughly look like, similar to the latest video shown below.

"Shenmue 3" is definitely happening, especially with the fact that Sony is also backing the game on top of its public support. But remember "The Last Guardian?" We can only hope for the best.
