American action camera maker GoPro's first drone "Karma" and Chinese drone manufacturer DJI's (Dai-Jiang Innovation) new pocket size drone Mavic Pro have started numerous discussions and direct comparisons among aficionados, aerial photographers, videographers, and content creators.

The top speeds of both Karma and Mavic Pro (35 mph and 40 mph, respectively) are well within the new FAA rules "Part 107" released last June 21 for small unmanned aircrafts, but both differ a lot in terms of technology, functionality, and portability.

While both drones feature 3-axis stabilisation, shoot 4K, and fit in a backpack with a price tag at around $1000 depending upon options, there are still many comparisons which should be considered before purchasing one.

Between the DJI Mavic Pro and GoPro Karma, which will you choose?

The Mavic Pro (1.62 lbs) weighs less than the Karma (2.22lbs). Also, the DJI model boast of a pocket size drone launch, while GoPro's Karma fits easily in a backpack. The operational features of Mavic outscore that of Karma with 27 mins of flight and 4.3miles of range than 20 minutes and 1.86miles of the latter.

Only GoPro's KARMA features a removable camera and gimbal. The Mavic Pro has a built in 12MP camera that can pitch and roll from -90° to +30° while KARMA has a range of motion between -90° to 0° with only up and down feature.

The accessory rich GoPro family offers different camera compatibility like Hero 5 Black/Session and Hero 4 Black with additional GoPro Plus account subscription.

Mavic Pro clearly outscores KARMA in flying with features like obstacle sensors, follow features, automation, GPS (also in KARMA) and indoor flying.

The manoeuvring of both drones is quite well. GoPro offers controller with a 5inch screen while Mavic can be paired and controlled with smartphone also. Live streaming is featured in both.

Coming to the price, you can get a drone with camera in Mavic Pro at a starting price of $749, while Karma starts with $799 that doesn't include a camera.
