GoPro action cameras are released in the market every other year. That tradition is being broken as the company plans to launch GoPro Hero 6 in 2017.

GoPro will launch the Hero6 action camera this year, breaking a two-year release pattern for an annual update as the company reacts to financial problems. GoPro's last few action cameras charted an every-other-year update pattern. GoPro Hero3 was released in 2012, GoPro Hero4 in 2014 and the GoPro Hero5 in 2016.

During a conference call with investors on February 2, CEO Nicholas Woodman confirmed that the GoPro Hero6 would be released in 2017. The CEO, however, has not offered a more definite timeline.

Speaking to Engadget, Nick Woodman said the GoPro Hero 6 would be a spherical camera. His vision is a future where you record your activities with one multi-lensed GoPro, creating a spherical video. It would create a spherical video that users can watch back on your phone. As you move the phone from one place to another, your motion would be tracked, and the app would produce a matching 2D video for sharing.

The CEO plans to incorporate VR to its 360 video to produce the ultimate GoPro. He further added that they are giving so much focus and dedication to the upcoming GoPro Hero 6.

Slash Gear notes that Woodman said that the company would not give any details at present, as far as timing and release dates of the GoPro Hero 6 are concerned. He did mention, however, that the company has several accessories in the pipeline for 2017.

Meanwhile, GoPro re-launched its Karma drone. It was originally hauled off the market in a voluntary recall to resolve issues of the drone nose-diving from mid-air flight. During its recent re-launch, GoPro revealed that the Karma now contains a new battery latch, which should resolve the power loss issue experienced by some users in the past.
