Sony has released a tear-jerking retrospective trailer for its highly anticipated title, "The Last Guardian."
The latest tralier, which features a look back into Team Ico's previous titles, "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus," is enough to make any fan giddy with nostalgia over Team Ico's critically acclaimed games, and at the same time anxious about "The Last Guardian"'s release date still being so far away.
Some developers have shared their feelings about this year's highly anticipated game in last week's Playstation Blog, as well as their fondest memories about "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus."
"Ico was the first videogame ever for me to care about an AI character, Yorda,"Sony's boss Shuhei Yoshida said. "There were no conversations that I could understand between the characters, just the behavior of Yorda in relation to what I did, or the situation presented, that made me feel like Yorda was a living person - thinking and feeling as an individual."
"I believe, as a fan of Ueda-san's games, that people feel like his work is special because you clearly feel the game was - from beginning to end - a singular vision, without any influence of popular genres or styles at the time." the Sony boss concluded.
Fumihiko Yasuda, director of developer Team Ninja, said that he is a huge fan of Team Ico's "fantastic animations."
"We at Team Ninja have also put great effort into creating smooth action for a long time," Yasuda commented. "I feel real and warm emotion from Ueda-san's sophisticated animations."
Quantic Dream's David Cage said that he loves Team Ico's unique way of storytelling, with players getting emotionally attached to the story and the characters they have created.
"Very few creators have such an ability that makes everything they touch distinctive and special," Cage said. "Ueda-san is definitely one of them. His work has been seminal in many ways, and is still today a source of inspiration."
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann also praised Team Ico for making such a great game as "Ico."
"Years after first playing it, the emotional impact of Ico tugging at Yorda's arm still resonates with me," the "Uncharted" director said. "It is one of many visionary choices that make Ico a classic and a master class in elegant storytelling and design."
"The Last Guardian" will be released exclusively on the Playstation 4 on Dec. 6.
