Capcom's latest "Monster Hunter" game, role-playing game spinoff "Monster Hunter Stories," topped Japan's game sales this week, but its sales figures are still not at par with the IP's biggest titles.

4Gamer.net reported (via Gematsu) that "Monster Hunter Stories" bagged the top spot in software sales in Japan, selling 140,603 units in the first two days of release, according to the latest Media Create figures.

The game surpassed Arc System Works' popular fighting game "BlazBlue: Central Fiction," which sold 20,608 units for the Playstation 4 (with another 9,674 Playstation 3 version sold) and Atlus' "Persona 5," which added another 13,169 units to its already impressive lifetime record of 446,307 units.

Despite topping the charts this week, however, "Monster Hunter Stories" still showed weak launch sales if compared against other bigger titles in the "Monster Hunter" franchise.

Earlier this year, "Monster Hunter X," known as "Monster Hunter Generations" in the West, sold nearly a whopping 1.5 million units, making it one of the biggest 3DS game launches in Japan, according to Nintendo Life
