Capcom's latest entry for the "Monter Hunter" series titled "Monster Hunter Stories" is an entirely different approach to the traditional mechanic. Is it going to be a good spinoff?
The video below shows IGN's take on the upcoming "Monster Hunter Stories," that does look an entirely different game.
As shown in the video above courtesy of IGN, "Monster Hunter Stories" will be a "Monster Hunter" game which ditches a large number of core mechanics, especially the combat.
Instead of the tried and tested action game mechanic of the prior "Monster Hunter" games, "Monster Hunter Stories" has turn-based combat, which screams RPG on every side. Not that it's a bad thing because given the drastic change, the game is still highly anticipated in Japan.
The game's art style also takes a huge spin with its new cel-shaded style graphics and cutesy animation. It gives the game a more cartoonish or anime~ish approach, which perfectly suits the major change in the game's combat mechanics.
Unlike the other games in the series, "Monster Hunter Stories," as its name implies, will focus more on "character-driven narrative". The story revolves around the "Riders" and the "Hunters," who steal eggs from monsters and turn them into mounts when they go into adventure.
Getting these eggs involve stealing them by relying on stealth and cunning or simply marching forward and fighting the monster parents head-on.
Still, just like with the other games in the series, "Monster Hunter Stories" still has a lot of customization that players can explore throughout the game depending on which monsters they capture.
These changes with "Monster Hunter Stories" don't show a lot of negative reactions from most fans as of yet and it does show promise, but we will find out once the game gets out. Hopefully, it gets localized for fans and players residing North America and pretty much everywhere else in the world.
