It seems like fans would have to continue the long wait before "Spider-Man" hits the shelves. Rumor has it that the eagerly anticipated title will not see the light until 2018.

Recently, a retailing video game website GameStop claimed that "Spider-Man" will be released for PlayStation 4 on Dec. 26, 2017. While some fans were glad of the release date news, many gamers believed that it is merely a placeholder as Insomniac Games has not announced the official launch date for "Spider-Man" yet.

Not long after the news made the rounds on the web, the game developer itself was keen to dismiss the claims. Insomniac Games stressed that there will be no release date announcement yet as the game is still in its early stages.

"That's a placeholder. No release date right now," Express quoted an Insomniac spokesperson as saying, responding to a screengrab of the GameStop release date listing. "All we said was there was no release date... Likely not going to announce one anytime soon."

Nonetheless, a recently released video has provided fans a quick glimpse at an early version of "Spider-Man." It even teased of a potential new feature that players can further explore.

Earlier this week, Insomniac Games took to Twitter to reply to the numerous inquiries that fans had about the eagerly anticipated game. There, the game developer revealed that the leaked video was not just pre-rendered or computer generated imagery (CGI). Rather, it is the actual in-game footage running in real time.

The game developer also confirmed that players needn't bother with a PlayStation 4 Pro in order to enjoy the game's graphics. They assured that original PS4 proprietors will not be left behind.

Although Insomniac Games are not ready to show off any gameplay footage yet, they confirmed that "Spider-Man" has a playable build. They further stressed that they will only show the gameplay once they are ready for it.

"Spider-Man" will be released exclusively for PlayStation 4.
