The latest NBA Trade rumors hinted at further changes in the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers roster. Reports claimed that the Timberwolves might sign in a deal with Cavaliers veteran player JR Smith before the start of the new season.
Chat Sports reported that Smith is currently an unrestricted free agent and he is unlikely to re-sign with his present team for the upcoming NBA season. The main reason behind Smith parting ways with the Cavaliers is that the team's management is willing to shell out only $10 million as salary, which is way lower than Smith's demand of $15 million.
Reports stated that the Timberwolves are looking forward to bank on this opportunity and bring in Smith in order to improve their gameplay, reported Cavaliers Nation. The trade rumors suggested that the Timberwolves are capable of accommodating Cavaliers' shooting guard as they currently have $25.5 million in salary cap space.
Furthermore, the Minnesota team might team up Smith with point guard Ricky Rubio, Kris Dunn and small forward Andrew Wiggins in order to develop their backcourt arena and thus rise to the top position in the NBA league. The 30-year-old player is said to have an average of 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists with 41.5 percent field efficiency in 34.5 minutes per game.
Apart from the Timberwolves, other teams who are also interested in trading JR Smith for the 2016-17 NBA season are the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
On the other hand, the Cleveland Cavaliers is eyeing few talented players like Nerlens Noel from 76ers or DeMarcus Cousins from Sacramento Kings or Carmelo Anthony from New York Knicks to further enhance its roster. It is stated that the Cavaliers might give up their power forward Kevin Love in exchange for one of these players.
However, nothing is officially confirmed as of now. Stay tuned in here for more NBA trade rumors and updates.
