The anticipation for Square Enix's upcoming RPG "Kingdom Hearts III" is still going strong, and speculations are still coming thick and fast.

As more like a wishlist rather than a full-on speculation, fans want to see "Kingdom Heart"'s very own Princess of Heart Kairi to get in on the action, not just in the cutscenes, like in "Kingdom Hearts II," but as a fully playable character.

When "Kingdom Hearts II" was released, a teaser showing Kairi holding a Keyblade and fighting Heartless whipped fans into a frenzy.

That frenzy turned into disappointment when it turned out that players still can't play as Kairi, and was only wielding the Keyblade in one particular cutscene.

However, fans are still hoping that Kairi can be playable someday. This hope was supported by the latest title, "Kingdom Hearts 2.8," where the protagonist in "A Fragmentary Passage" is Aqua, a Keyblade wielder, and incidentally, a female.

In "Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep," Kairi encountered Aqua in Radiant Garden, and Aqua helped her go back to Destiny Islands. Kairi accidentally touched Aqua's Keyblade, making her Aqua's Keyblade inheritor inintentionally.

These are all mere speculation at this point. Hopefully, this is a hint that players will eventually be able to play as Kairi in the next "Kingdom Hearts."

In other news, a "Kingdom Hearts" fan made his own game starring Kairi. The fan-made project, dubbed "Kingdom Hearts: Destiny Islands," was made using Unreal Engine 4, and the creator, Nicky Lee, showcased some early footage of the game on Youtube.

Check out the demo video below. This demo was made in four days, and thus Lee said that it is in very early stages of development.

Lee has also recently set up a Kickstarter campaign for his fan-made game. For fans who want to play as Kairi, this may be one of the chances we can get.

There is still no official release date for "Kingdom Hearts III" as of this time. Check back for more updates.
