Apple's iOS 18.2 update is full of new features that will improve the user experience. While much of the attention is on the Apple Intelligence advancements, this update brings some non-AI-related improvements that will surely benefit iPhone users.
From better charging time estimates to enhanced AirTag sharing options, here's a breakdown of the best new additions in iOS 18.2.
Charge Time Estimates for Your iPhone
Perhaps one of the long-overdue features of an iPhone would be when the time to full charge the device will actually take. Though this feature isn't available in iOS 18.2 beta, it appears according to 9to5Mac, code discovered indicates this is in the works for an immediate update in the future.
If it's not with the iOS 18.2 release, expect this within iOS 18.3 due out in February. This will be placed on par with Android, as that has offered the facility for some time.

AirTag Item Location Sharing
The Apple system through iOS 18.2 improved how you could share your location through an AirTag. Previously, users could share an AirTag with trusted family or friends, but now you'll be able to generate a secure link to share its location with anyone, even via a web browser on a computer.
The link expires after 7 days or once the AirTag is returned to its owner, providing a simple and temporary way to track lost items. In addition, Apple is working with airlines to include it in their lost baggage systems, increasing its practical application in the real world.
News+ Daily Sudoku Puzzles
A fun, interesting feature that has been introduced in daily Sudoku puzzles for the Apple News+ subscribers is making their experience richer with day-to-day puzzles inside the News app.
Here the user will get easy, medium, and challenging puzzles each day along with daily crosswords and other word games to challenge and entertain. MacWord says it will provide a good time pass and an effective brain exercise while staying updated with news from every corner of the globe.
Customize Default Messaging and Calling Apps
One of the much-needed updates for iOS 18.2 is the ability to set default messaging and calling apps. It can now be found under Settings > Apps > Default Apps as a new option that makes it possible to choose your preferred applications for messaging and calling, thereby bringing more flexibility to iPhone customization.
Of course, there are no third-party alternatives available yet, but this surely opens the door for developers to integrate with those new frameworks in future versions.
Volume Limit and Lock Screen Slider Improvements
For users who care about their volume levels, iOS 18.2 has a volume limit feature added to the Settings > Sound & Haptics menu. It will only apply to media playback; for example, it will mute your music or videos but will not touch system sounds or calls.
In addition, iOS 18.2 brings back the volume control slider on the Lock screen under Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual. Many users missed this feature when it was removed in iOS 16, but now you can easily adjust the volume while your device is locked.
Camera Control Improvements for iPhone 16
Several quality-of-life features in iOS 18.2 will please camera enthusiasts, especially iPhone 16 owners. The Camera Control button now allows you to trigger the new Visual Intelligence feature by pressing and holding it.
Users can further customize the double-click speed for the Camera Control button in Settings > Accessibility. In addition, there is a new autofocus/exposure lock function that lets you lock the focus and exposure with a light touch, as on a DSLR.
Smart Categories in the Mail App
The iOS 18.2 Mail app will categorize your email into four groups: Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. This way, maintaining the inbox would seem much easier.
The categories are found at the top of the Mail app, and you can swipe left to see all the mail. Apple is assuring that it processes all this locally on the device, and users' emails wouldn't be kept in any central repository.
