Apple iOS 18.1's successor, arriving in December, brings new features and security updates.

Following the second developer beta, which was released recently, iOS 18.2 promises to help make trusting new computers easier, improve Apple Intelligence tools, and provide valuable updates to the camera.

Improved Security: Trust New Computers Using Face ID

Apple has made it even easier to connect a new computer to the iPhone through iOS 18.2 with the normalization of the process down to trust the new computer. 9to5Mac reports that one now needs to enter their PIN or passcode in order to allow computer access to their device.

The publication added that Apple expert Aaron Perris discovered this feature in beta testing and believed that it should make the connection with the device much faster while maintaining robust security.

This update changes the "Trust This Computer" feature that Apple introduced more than a decade ago. It allows the user to choose which computers are granted permission to access data from an iPhone.

With the new Face ID process, the need for users to enter a passcode manually will be reduced and enhance user experience at the same time minimize access to sensitive information.

If the user does not grant permission to trust the computer, they will see this message each time the device tries to connect so that they always remain in control of who is granted access to their information.

Apple's documentation ensures that even trusted computers with local backup enabled, that run iOS 16 or later, see this message as an added security measure.

More Apple Intelligence Features in iOS 18.2

Apart from the usual security updates, iOS 18.2 packs the second generation of Apple Intelligence features. These advanced tools, already in beta, will be rolled out for iPhones, making them wiser and friendlier to use:

  • Visual Intelligence Exclusive to iPhone 16 Models: This feature will enhance image recognition to understand even objects, scenes, etc. For the phone, this will mean better uses with apps like Photos and Safari.
  • Support for ChatGPT and ChatGPT Plus Integration: The iOS 18.2 will natively support ChatGPT, offering new possibilities in text generation, summaries, and personal assistant functionality. It will add a fun, customized layer to messaging by creating unique, personalized emojis using AI under the Apple name known as Genmoji.
  • Image Playground: Users now take creative control of imagery as they can apply AI-driven enhancements and adjustments directly within Photos.

These tools make the second set of AI releases that iOS 18.1 brought on, including writing tools and AI-powered Focus modes, a pretty significant step forward in putting the iPhone in hands that are intuitively intelligent.

New Camera Controls: Easily Adjust Focus and Exposure

Another bright addition to iOS 18.2 is the enhanced Camera Control button, from which users can easily change their focus and exposure locks right on their iPhones. The upgrade will benefit photography professionals and make it easier for average users to get sharper and brighter shots.

Share the Location of Lost Items

The December update will also bring a feature that will enable users to share the location of their misplaced item with trusted contacts. The functionality will come in handy in tracking lost devices and is part of Apple's commitment to making it easy and effective to recover devices.
