Apple's new iPhone 16, along with the iPhone 16 Pro, has impressed everyone with a greater sense of battery life—that could blow away their overheating worries.

Apparently, things have not been all that smooth for some users. This is because iPhone 16, along with some iPhone 16 Pro users have complained about the sudden draining of batteries, especially on Apple's own forums and Reddit following the iOS 18 update.

iPhone 16 Battery Drain Stories Flock on Discussion Forums

Users have generally seen immense battery drain even when their devices are idle or simply running mundane tasks. According to one commenter on Reddit spotted by MacRumors, "Listened to music for the first 2.5 hours of my day (with less than 45 minutes screen time) and realized my battery was at 68 percent."

The next commenter said he was comparing his current phone activity with her girlfriend's old iPhone 14. While his iPhone 16 is at 45%, her gf's phone is at 78%. At this point, he realized that "something isn't right" in the brand-new device.

As such, these complaints are not isolated because there are great numbers of iPhone 16 and 16 Pro users facing such problems. For some, though, problems began from the beta testing phase of iOS 18, and it appears they carried over to the full release and ushered in a new wave of unhappy users.

"I have also been having really bad battery life too. I came from the 13 Pro Max and honestly hasn't been any much monumental for me. I've noticed that facetime has probably been the worst drain but playing music has definitely impacted it too," another Redditor wrote.

Effect on iPhone's Battery Life Due to iOS 18

Battery drain issues usually occur with major updates, and this is apparently true for iOS 18.

Even though Apple claims that "hardware in the new iPhone models is optimized for improved battery life," quite a few people are saying the actual system update feels just the opposite: dying when idle or engaged in some very low-tasking activities, like playing music.

But it's worth mentioning that not all iPhone 16 and 16 Pro owners suffer from this issue, Mashable reminds its readers. Some users say there are no problems whatsoever, while others reported that the iOS 18.1 beta update fixed the issue. However, it's erratic, thus creating a problem; hence, everyone waits for an official patch.

Common with New iOS Releases But Users Want a Fix

The issues have plagued previous versions of iOS. While frustrating, they are often resolved by subsequent updates. The tech giant has faced similar issues before, and there is a silver lining that Apple will soon release a patch that restores the battery life it promised.

Until then, those feeling the squeeze of extreme battery drain will just have to hold out for a long-term fix or attempt an iOS 18.1 beta update to see if that eases the pain a bit.

Apple hasn't commented on the issue yet, but as the whining escalates, it's likely the company will make fixing it a priority in future updates. The Cupertino giant is left with no choice, but to improve its iPhone every release—or else, consumers will look for a cheaper and better alternative that won't break their wallet.
