A fully-charged iPhone solves all your worries throughout the day. You can stream songs for a long period, you can play games with no interruption, and you can call your friends all day.
Unfortunately, for iPhone users with slow-charging devices, there might be a problem you fail to see—like overheating.
Overheating is the Suspect
Keeping your phone cool while charging can really enhance its performance and prolong its battery life. If it has gone too hot when it is plugged in, then simple effective strategies can help you avoid unnecessary heat buildup.
Upgrade to a Faster Charger for Better Results
A faster charger can really make all the difference in the actual amount of time spent plugged into your phone, thus causing lower heat.
In regards to an iPhone, the fastest is a 20-watt power adapter paired with a USB-C to Lightning cable; if you have an iPhone 8 or later, that should fill up the battery to 50% in half an hour.
Unlike the older versions, the new iPads no longer provide a power adapter in the package; however, an official 20-watt charger is available through Apple or other retailers. This charger greatly reduces the time spent charging and prevents overheating due to overcharging.
Use MagSafe for Wireless Charging Efficiency
If you want wireless charging, the option offered by Apple to charge your iPhone using its MagSafe charger is the second fastest of all means.
Along with a 20-watt adapter, you will be able to have 15 watts of charging power on an iPhone 12 or later in the series. Using the wireless charging facility from MagSafe, you can charge your iPhone 30 percent in just half an hour.
Other wireless chargers, again with some of the Qi-certified, only offer as high as 7.5 watts of power to deliver, slowing down the chargers and more likely to overheat for very extended use. Stay with MagSafe for efficient, heat-conscious wireless charging.
Avoid Charging Your Phone Using Your Computer
Charging through your laptop's USB port sounds highly convenient, but this is actually a slower method which may put a lot more pressure on your phone, making it overheat. Laptops do not provide enough power through their USB-A or USB-C ports when compared to a wall outlet.
This makes your phone produce more heat in the long run because it is charging slower. Charge all your devices on a wall charger so they charge cool and fast.
Limit the Use of Your Phones While Charging
The more you stream videos or play games on your phone while charging, the more heat is generated. Letting your phone rest is, therefore, the best way to ensure that it is cooled even when it is charging.
Avoid perusing internet browsing or playing games while charging your phone; these will charge speedily and without overheating.
Switch Off Your Phone for Quicker Charge
If you are in a hurry, switching off your cell phone during charging will boost your battery the fastest. As long as the device is switched off, that means zero power consumption, hence faster and cooler recharging. If your phone automatically starts back up, then switch it off when you connect it.
Use Airplane Mode
If this is not possible, turning your phone to airplane mode enables the charging speed because most power-hungry features such as the presence of Wi-Fi, cellular, or Bluetooth are interrupted from the system. Thus, its rate of heat dissipation is reduced, and charging is increased at a pace that is without having the system fully shut off.
Adjust Your Phone's Settings for Optimal Charging
There are several methods to allow your phone to charge faster and at a lower temperature. The low power mode, adjusting the screen brightness, and activating the dark mode can minimize power consumption when charging. Changing screen brightness is one of the best, as the screen uses the most power.
Review Your Optimized Battery Charging Feature
Optimized Battery Charging is designed to help your battery last longer by slowing charging when it's at 80% or more for extended periods, like overnight. The feature also slows charging in normal use. You can turn off Off Optimized Battery Charging in Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
Consider Replacing Your Battery
Maybe your phone's battery has aged and needs to be changed. You can monitor how degradable the battery of your device has become under the Battery Health settings.
A significantly deteriorated battery is prone to having the device heat up so much and consume power at an alarming rate. Changing it will save you from such issues while giving you a generally better performance of the phone.
