While "The Division" has been very popular among gamers and fans of shooters with RPG elements and the like, was it short-lived and now gathering dust?
Gamers were really excited when "The Division" was first announced at E3 2013. What is not to be excited about an open-world setting in a city. Add to that the game is multiplayer and gamers can explore the vastness of the world with friends.
Fast forward to today, it seems like the game isn't even part of the bigger discussions anymore. The publishers are pushing a number of improvements to the game, but it doesn't seem to help lure the former players back as well as the newcomers.
Released on March 7 2016, it only lasted about a few months in order for the game to die out in terms of hype and reception. On Steam, "The Division" now has an overall review of "Mixed" and "Mostly Negative" for the recent reviews. This doesn't spell good for the game.
As expected with massively online multiplayer games, story is one of their weaknesses, but players had their hopes up with "The Division." Like "Destiny," the game failed in delivering a depth in its story and it may even be worse than the former.
Some players grew tired early on, even before reaching the level cap, which isn't a good sign into a game's lifespan. According to a review from Steam, the game also shows a bad end game due to bad RNG formulas, unbalanced talents, numerous bugs and glitches and worst of all, the toxic community.
Even with the new DLCs and expansions, the attempt to rectify the game's worsening situation doesn't seem to be improving. For a game paid at a full price of a AAA, the same quality is to be expected. Unfortunately, it still doesn't feel like one and this continuously affects the game's standing.
Hopefully, Massive will be able to provide a decisive fix for majority of these issues on "The Division." Hopefully, it is not too late for Ubisoft and Massive.
