The production for a planned "The Last Of Us" movie is still in the works, according to the game's creative director Neil Druckmann.
In a recent interview with 89.3 KPCC's The Frame, the award-winning writer confirmed that the movie adaptation is still in the works, although it is taking longer than anticipated.
"I have been a writer on it," Druckmann confirmed, "but right now it hasn't moved anywhere in the past couple years."
Another Naughty Dog video game, the critically acclaimed adventure game "Uncharted," is also slated for a silver screen adaptation, but is also stuck on production stage for nine years.
Speaking about how long it takes for a video game to be done, Druckmann said that the post-zombie apocalypse game "The Last Of Us" took three and a half years to be completed, while "Uncharted 4" took more than four years.
Applying this timeframe to the rumored follow-up to the successful title, "The Last Of Us 2" may just come out in 2020, give or take. This may mean that the movie may come out well before the second game is launched.
These are merely speculations so take it with a grain of salt.
Druckmann also spoke about the nature of violence in "The Last of Us," compared to "Uncharted."
"Ultimately, 'The Last Of Us' with all of its violence, comes from a very deep place where I believe in all of Joel's actions," Druckmann said. "And I think -- I don't know because I don't live in a post-apocalyptic world -- that I would take similar actions to Joel if faced with those same decisions."
"With 'The Last Of Us' where violence has the same weight as the real world," he added, "that violence is very different from a pulp action game like "Uncharted" where the violence is more cartoony and more stylized."
Stay tuned for more "The Last of Us 2" updates. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we want to see in the sequel.
