It appears as though it is just a matter of time until "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 finally sees the light of day. Speculations are rife that studio Perriot will introduce a new major character to the much-awaited show.

The Christian Times reported that the show's third season will focus on Touka Kirishima, contrary to the series' first and second season run wherein fans watched Ken Kaneki's story unfold. The publication noted that the anime will now follow Touka's journey to college.

The show's newest protagonist, who is actually a ghoul and ex-waitress at Anteiku, will reportedly look for the best university to attend to, yet it will be extremely tough for her to do as such. Touka already appeared in the show's previous seasons, wherein she is known as Ken's training partner.

Earlier reports claimed that Touka is the one who helps and teaches Ken how to live among different ghouls when the latter is still in his half-ghoul form. Despite that, spoilers and predictions claimed that Touka actually detests Ken. Such revelation is expected to play out in "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.

While nothing is officially set in stone yet, other speculations suggested that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will follow Ken, who takes on a new identity as a ghoul investigator after being abducted by a notorious terrorist group. The upcoming season is also expected to explore the rising racial tensions in the city and the pervasive trepidation of ghoul discrimination.

"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," writer Bob told Anime Maru, adding that they hope to remain faithful to the show's source material. "Although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."

Though no release date has been announced yet, the much-awaited "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is rumored to hit the airwaves sooner or later in 2017. Stay tuned for more "Tokyo Ghoul" news and updates.
