The "Elder Scrolls" community rejoiced when Bethesda mentioned the existence of "Elder Scrolls 6." However, the game publisher now confirmed that the game is definitely not in development yet.
Bethesda's chief game creator Todd Howard has apparently confirmed that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is in the works, or at least that's what it sounded like.
During an interview on with Geoff Keighley on Youtube Live stream at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Howard said that a sequel for "The Elder Scrolls 6" is on its way, Gamesradar reported.
"That's kind of like the elephant in the room when we talk about anything," Howard answered when asked if "The Elder Scrolls 6" is being planned. "I think it's good to tell our fans in these moments, 'yes, of course we are.'"
Howard then said that it would take a long time before fans can even get their hands on "Elder Scroll 6."
"But it is - you know, I have to be careful what I say - it's a very long way off." Howard said.
If that was not sad enough for the "Elder Scrolls" fans, Bethesda's company VP Pete Hines seem to add more salt to the injury this weekend.
Hines took to social media site Twitter to confirm that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is not even in development yet in the first place.
The Bethesda boss was asked if developing big games will take away the focus from "The Elder Scrolls 6." "We aren't working on TES6 at the moment," Hines answered with crushing finality.
When asked to give an estimate as to when "The Elder Scrolls 6" will come out, Hines replied that it will be "years and years" before the game will even be released.
"I'm not lying. i have no reason to lie," Hines told another Twitter user. "Just managing expectations and clearing up misconceptions."
According to PC Gamer, Hines sent them a statement clarifying his tweet. "[Howard] said we were going to make it," he said. "He never said it was in development."
