Bethesda's Todd Howard has been working on some of the publisher's biggest franchises, "Fallout" and "The Elder Scrolls," and it looks like he would be attached to these two huge IP's for a longer period of time.
During an interview with Glixel, the "Skyrim" creator was asked if he wants to make "Elder Scrolls" and "Fallout" games for the rest of his life. "In some respects, yes," he responded. "They're worlds that we really love."
"I would be sad if we stopped," Howard continued. "We want to do other things as well, but those are worlds that are part of who I am."
Howard also contemplated on how many games he intended to make, saying that Bethesda has a few mobile titles, similar to "Fallout Shelter," in the works. However, he also said that he does not think about how many games he has left to create.
"Earlier this year, at the Game Developers Conference, they gave me - I'll say us [Bethesda] - the Lifetime Achievement Award," the "Fallout" creator mused. "That's when I thought about it. You start adding it up. I don't dwell on it. I enjoy it too much. I'm going to do it for as long as possible."
Of course, an interview with Todd Howard will never be complete without the million-dollar question: "When is Elder Scrolls 6" coming out?
"It's not what you would call a big, active project right now," the game maker responded. "There are some other ones that we have going. We know it's important to our fans, and we need to be careful about setting expectations."
Howard did say that they already have ideas for the next "Elder Scrolls" title. "It's certainly a game that we'll be making one day. I could sit here and explain to you exactly what we want it to be."
Perhaps Howard is being very careful with his words this time around. Earlier this year at E3, he caused quite a stir when he said that "Elder Scrolls 6" definitely exists, which gave fans the impression that the game is already in development.
"That's kind of like the elephant in the room when we talk about anything," Howard answered when asked if "The Elder Scrolls 6" is being planned. "I think it's good to tell our fans in these moments, 'yes, of course we are.'"
"But it is - you know, I have to be careful what I say - it's a very long way off." Howard added.
In an interview with Game Star during this year's Gamescom, Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines confirmed that "Elder Scrolls 6" would not be happening anytime soon.
It looks like both the fans and Bethesda want this game to be out, but with everything that was said recently, it looks like it would be an even longer waiting game for "Elder Scrolls 6."
