"Two and a Half Men" star Ashton Kutcher is set to play the role of Apple co-founder and tech titan Steve Jobs, in an indie film called "Jobs."

According to Variety entertainment news Web site, Kutcher has been cast as the Apple icon in the indie film, which will be directed by Joshua Michael Stern and produced by Five Star Institute's Mark Hulme, from a script by Matt Whiteley.

"The film will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time," writes Variety. Meanwhile, according to the same Web site, Sony Pictures is also developing its own Steve Jobs biopic, based on Walter Isaacson's bestseller.

'Jobs' to Start Shooting in May

Kutcher will reportedly start shooting "Jobs" in May, when he takes a break from filming the popular CBS series "Two and a Half Men." Mark Hulme from Five Star Institute will not only be producing the "Jobs" biopic, but he will also be financing the project. CAA, which represents both Kutcher and Stern, will also represent the film's domestic distribution rights.

Kutcher gained popularity with comedy roles, starting with "That 70s Show." He was last seen in Gary Marshall's "New Year's Eve" and the romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," but he also gained acknowledgement for more serious films such as Emilio Estevez' historical drama "Bobby" and David Mackenzie's sex dramedy "Spread."

As for Joshua Michael Stern, the film director, he made his debut with the 2005 Aaron Eckhart movie "Neverwas," directed Disney's 2008 comedy "Swing Vote" and is also set to direct Stone Village's R-rated comedy "Carnaval."

The biopic "Jobs" will start shooting in May, portraying the life of visionary Steve Jobs. The Apple co-founder inspired millions of people worldwide and received great praise from celebrities, politicians, sports personalities and ordinary people all across the world. He died in October 2011 at the age of 56, after suffering a respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumor. People remember him as a visionary and a great leader, a global icon in the technology industry, and the pioneer of popular iPhones, iPads and iPods.
