Nintendo has showcased more gameplay footage for its highly anticipated title "Pokemon Sun and Moon" at the Nintendo Treehouse event.
New Pokemon are introduced during the gameplay session, as well as improved features and a whole new battle mode.
First Pokemon the fans are introduced to is Pikipek, a normal type flying Pokemon with the Keen Eye and Skill Link abilities. The second is normal type Pokemon Yungoos, with abilites Stakeout and Strong Jaw, and looks perpetually angry for some reason. Finally we have bug type Pokemon Grubbin, with the Swarm ability.
The mythical steel/fairy-type Pokemon, Magearna, is also introduced during the clip. According to IGN, Magearna is a 500-year old Pokemon which was created by a scientist. It has the power to distinguish "emotions, thoughts, and feelings of other Pokemon".
Nintendo also announced an all new battle mode called "Battle Royal" during its live stream. It is a four-way battle mode where each trainer chooses which Pokemon to battle with and enters the arena at the same time, Endgadget reported.
The trainers would then choose which Pokemon to attack. Trainers can effectively use their Pokemon's strengths to attack a weaker Pokemon, or choose to avoid a stronger one. The idea of a four-way rumble match is appealing, however, as Endgadget pointed out, it would be a long wait before the trainer's next turn.
There will also be slight enhancements to the battle encounters in "Pokemon Sun and Moon," Kotaku reported. When close to another trainer's field of view, the edges of the screen darkens. Trainers will then challenge the player once he or she is in their full view.
The trainers have also had some unique animation tweaks, giving the battles a fresher look.
Battles also have new camera angles, and the Pokemon can now cast shadows, which will differ depending on the time of day. The menu UI also received a makeover.
"Pokemon Sun and Moon" will be released on the Nintendo 3DS on November 18, 2016.
