A wave of speculations about Huawei releasing a new Nexus phone in 2016 has been consistently present on the Internet. But could there be a new mobile device in the works?
Three new models of Huawei smartphone- such as the P9, P9 Plus, and P9 Lite were launched on June 3 in South Africa. But what created a buzz is an unconfirmed statement from Huawei General Manager Charlene Mulinall stating, "we're doing the Nexus again this year, by the way," noted Gearburn.
Another event that made the public theorize a 2016 Nexus phone release was when Huawei Director Richard Yu confirmed the plans to launch a Daydream compatible handset in Autumn. As per Know Your Mobile, the company execs are currently working on either a Nexus or an HTC mobile phone with the feature compatibility.
On the other hand, XDA Developers clarified that Huawei would not launch a Nexus phone this year and Mulinall's statement was only misunderstood. The General Manager must mean that they are bringing the current product, which is the Nexus XP, in South Africa instead launching a new one this year.
These reports could have added some hype among the avid Huawei users, however, the company is not giving any concrete details about the rumors yet.
"We don't comment on future products, as a matter of policy. Huawei is committed to creating the world's most compelling and innovative devices, offering an exceptional performance and outstanding user experience," she told Mobile&Apps.
"We are proud to have worked with Google, which is strong in innovation, on the Nexus 6P and will continue to collaborate in the future, such as our support for Daydream, the recently-announced platform for high-performance mobile VR," Hassett concluded.
