It seems like 2016 is a year not only for more innovations but of great changes too as the public is a bit shaken upon knowing that Samsung, which is known for being the biggest maker of Android devices, is making a move completely unexpected than its usual route. Today, a lot were surprised when the Korean electronics company has announced that it will be working with tech company Microsoft.
The working partnership will be on developing IoT devices that will be based on Windows 10. Both companies are said to be working to develop products that will run on the said platform and will also integrate the said development with other companies that are also making hardware and services based on Microsoft's Windows 10 OS.
The announcement of the new working relationship between the two has been made public during a keynote speech by Samsung President of Business Solutions Unit WP Hong at the ongoing CES 2016 show in Las Vegas.
Hong has outlined their company's ambitions across the aspects of the IoT spectrum as a chip maker, device maker and service provider but not as a platform maker, which is where Microsoft is said to come in. According to VP of Microsoft Windows devices Terry Myerson, platform is integral to Samsung's IoT strategy.
The working relationship between the two companies is not relatively new, though. In the past, the two have been known to have worked together for about 30 years or so on Windows devices. It is just the first time that Samsung is venturing out of the Android realm and into the Windows OS world with its devices.
There are speculations as to why the Korean tech company has ventured into the Windows OS side. These speculations have been going around specially recently--it has been reported that there is a lot of tension now going on between Samsung and Google over Android. The announcement that it is now working with Microsoft might be a statement towards Google saying it can work with another company if needed.
For now, the partnership seems to be in the process of getting well established. Let us just wait for the upcoming results of the partnership between these two brilliant tech companies.
