Apple’s famous App Store has crossed the 25 billion downloads milestone since its launch in 2008, and the company want to reward the lucky 25 billionth downloader a $10,000 gift card.
The App Store has rapidly gained in popularity over the past few years and it is now a huge success. Curious users spend hours on end browsing for books, games, navigational aids, new apps, lifestyle suggestions, calorie counters and what not. Numerous software companies got on board and created an entirely new industry, enabling anyone with a good, original idea to get involved in developing apps and making money.
The lucky winner can redeem the gift card in the App Store, the iTunes Store and iBook Store.
iTunes users also had a shot at winning the reward even without actually downloading an app, as the prize will be awarded for the entry. The limit is 25 entries per person per day, and the winner will be determined based on the order of entries received. The App Store touched the 25 billion download milestone on Saturday night.
Last January, a UK woman won a $10,000 App Store gift card after downloading the free Paper Glider game. Luckily for her, it was the 10 billionth app download. According to Apple, 7 billion apps have been downloaded between January 2010 and January 2011, and over 15 billion apps have been downloaded since.
