The Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest show focusing on the latest phones and tablets, has ended with a bang and during the 4-day conference, all eyes were on quad-core devices and Windows 8 platform.

Smartphone manufacturers are presenting their flagship quad-core devices, with even more battery efficiency and computing power than any phones now on the market. LG took the lead and announced its Optimus 4X HD smartphone this week. The Optimus 4X HD will have a 4.7-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixels and will run on a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor from Nvidia. ARM is also working on its OMAP 5 chip, its latest dual-core CPU platform based on its upcoming Cortex A-15 architecture, and it is supposed to be faster than today’s quad-core chips.

Next, Microsoft has unveiled its Windows 8. Windows 8 is suited for tablets, laptops and desktops and it will soon be available on ARM devices as well, bearing more resemblance to Android and iOS devices. Microsoft may also announce its Windows Phone, but will likely focus on promoting the operating system.

During Consumer Electronics Show held in January, Samsung grabbed media attention with its line of mobile products, especially Galaxy Note. At MWC, the Galaxy S3 was conspicuous by its absence but Samsung unveiled its 10-inch Galaxy Note.
