Samsung has been known to be struggling for quite some time now, what with Apple unleashing one high-end smartphone after the other. Aside from Apple's iPhones, new smartphones that has been recently produced by other competitors seems to be luring customers away from them. It is with a happy note, however, that Samsung has been able to announce their profit growth which has increased dramatically.

According to what they have posted on their website, during the third quarter period, Samsung has been able to gain 7.39 trillion KRW or 6.42 billion USD in operating profit. This news has been welcomed enthusiastically by the company as this would be like a salve to the wound they have for the past seven straight quarters wherein they only experienced a decline in sales.

Samsung's revenue has continued to increase by approximately 6% every quarter, much of which is attributed to their semiconductor and display panel business. On the other hand, a 500 billion KRW or 440 million USD operating profit improvement came from a weaker KRW exchange rate against other currencies. Although Samsung's mobile business didn't contribute much to the increase, it was still able to have 2.4 trillion KRW or 2.1 billion USD in operating profit. The dramatic increase in smartphone sales has also been noted.

The company also observed that their large screen smartphones that was released this quarter has been appealing to the public attracting positive response from consumers. This leads Samsung to believe that their smartphone sales will continue to improve especially since the holiday season always means a higher market demand.

Due to these reasons alone, Samsung will be making an effort to maintain a profit level similar to last quarter and also expand product sales. Although Samsung expects sales to be high for smartphones during the fourth quarter due to the holiday season, they are still wary and cautious as they also still expect that their earnings can decline due to the unfavorable foreign exchange rate being experienced now.
