Oculus Rift is, without a doubt, the next stage of evolution for gaming and virtual reality. Although the game console makers have not announced a specific pre-order date for the release of Oculus VR, it is possible that it would be available by the first quarter of 2016.
The presentation at the recently concluded E3 showed improvements to the Oculus Rift that include a new Rift headset a Home digital and gaming platform and sensor-fitted Touch controllers. The Home platform will serve as the user's gaming hub where he can interact with other players, try out new games before purchasing and launch existing games from its database. The new Touch controllers will interpret basic hand gestures and track finger positions that works with the wireless Xbox One controller (free) to give the user virtual hands.
In an interview with Tech News World, Ted Pollak, senior games analyst at John Peddie Research, voiced out his concerns regarding the lack of available "AAA games" that uses VR technology. And despite the various improvements in its ergonomic design, Pollak is also concerned that gamers might not be "willing to play long gaming sessions with something attached to their faces."
Gaming experts in the market project Oculus VR's likely failure in sales. These experts state that Xbox One and Playstation 4 have suffered such fate in the past and they don't see any reason why failure would be impossible to a less known Oculus VR gaming console.
Reports from the Register also show that Microsoft has conducted its own research that improves the Oculus Rift's perspective. For this improvement to take place, however, you will need a decent 3D printer and some shelf lens elements from Edmond Optics. This do-it-yourself project has an estimate cost of US$200 per eye.
Whether the Oculus Rift suffer huge losses or noteworthy success, it's clear that the next step in gaming and virtual reality involves less of the traditional console and screen setup. We look forward to playing our first "real" VR game when Oculus Rift is released.
