LG is apparently interested in giving Microsoft's Windows Phone platform another shot, and a new image of an upcoming device has now leaked online.
For quite some time now, the rumor mill has been buzzing in regards to a new Windows Phone handset from LG, yet nothing materialized so far. Nevertheless, such rumors are again coming to surface now, as a new image claims to show an upcoming LG smartphone running Microsoft's mobile operating system (OS).
Most Windows Phone devices are Lumias, but smartphones from other OEMs may come to light soon, if rumors turn out to be accurate. After Microsoft acquired Nokia's device unit, other OEMs seemed to prefer other platforms rather than launching Windows Phone devices. LG itself has not launched a Windows Phone handset in years, but may re-enter the scene soon enough.
The image above comes from Neowin and allegedly shows an upcoming LG Windows Phone smartphone. Those who were hoping to see a Windows Phone version of the LG G3 or LG G Flex will be disappointed, as the handset doesn't seem to be a high-end flagship. It may be a modified version of one of the company's latest mid-rangers - the LG Magna, Joy, Spirit, and Leon - or it could be an entirely new device.
It's also worth pointing out that the device shown in this image has the volume and power buttons located on the sides, not on the rear as found on the aforementioned handsets, which further bolsters the theory that it could be an entirely new device.
When it comes to specifications, it all remains shrouded in mystery for now. Neowin does note that it may sport a display between 4.5 and 5 inches, but makes no mention of resolution or other hardware specifications such as processor, RAM, cameras, and so on. The phone seems unlikely to be a high-end offering with top-notch specs and features on board, but it remains to be seen.
The image further shows the device with Verizon branding, which indicates that it could launch as an exclusive to Big Red in the U.S. On the software side, the handset is expected to launch with Windows Phone 8.1, but could receive an update to the latest Windows 10 when it's ready to roll out.
No other details are available at this point, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as more information comes to light. In the meantime, take everything with a grain of salt, including this leak.
