It seems the newly-released Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone may have some display quality issues, as early buyers are already reporting problems.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge made their debut on March 1 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 and their general release is set for April 10 in the U.S. T-Mobile, however, started shipping the Galaxy S6 Edge early to pre-order customers, and some already received their new smartphone.
According to a growing thread on the XDA Developers forums, however, a number of customers who already received their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have noticed some issues with the display.
"On sunday, I pre ordered a 128gb s6 edge on tmobile's website, it arrived on tuesday, and as soon as I turned it on I noticed dead pixels and also i noticed under direct sunlight that the screen had scratches everywhere, i paid almost one thousand dollars for this and I found that unacceptable, so I called TMobile and they said I had to return the phone, wait until they refunded my money and then I could order another one OR I could buy another one and pay for it and return this one," user rhcpcjg complains in a new post on XDA. "So I just went ahead and placed another order and they overnighted a new phone to me. The phone arrived today, and it also has dead pixels or something black under the display (very noticebale) and also has a really scratched screen. The phone is nice, it works fine most of the time, but my problem is not with the software, it is with the lack of quality control Samsung is showing with this release."
The user (who also provided the image above) ultimately returned both phones, as both of them had issues. The same thread on XDA also reveals that other users faced similar issues, which means the problem may be more widespread.
"Same exact thing with my s6 edge 32gb. Small scratches allike over the screen," another user reveals.
"I also have this problem on my Edge. At first I just saw a decent scratch on the top right bezel, but then looking in the light I saw around 6 light hairline scratches all over the screen," reads another post on the thread. "Considering the back is completely scratch free, I feel like it has to be a manufacturing problem with the curved screen. I have a replacement coming in (hopefully Friday), and if it has the same problem, I'm switching to the regular S6."
Long story short, some users found scratches on their Galaxy S6 Edge's display right out of the box, while other reported noticing dead pixels on the display. It remains unclear at this point just how widespread such issues are, as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will not hit stores until April 10.
