The next-generation Galaxy S6 smartphone may reportedly drop Samsung's own bloatware apps and pack a number of Microsoft apps instead.

Samsung devices are notorious for packing a slew of pre-installed applications. While some users appreciate some of them, others would gladly get rid of all that heavy bloatware that often makes the device run slower than it should.

Just recently, word came out that Samsung was looking to reduce the bloatware for its next-generation Galaxy S6, making many features available as add-ons rather than pre-installed apps. This would significantly boost the performance of the device, allowing it to work faster and more smoothly.

According to a new report from SamMobile, citing an inside source, Samsung is indeed planning some exciting changes on the software side. The biggest change would reportedly be the aforementioned removal of pre-installed Samsung apps, but that's not all there is to it.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 will also come with a slew of Microsoft apps such as OneNote, OneDrive, Office Mobile with a free Office 365 subscription, and Skype, reveals the report.

"With Windows Phone failing to make a dent on the smartphone market, Microsoft has recently shifted focus to its software services, and having them pre-installed on one of the bestselling Android smartphone lineups might just give the Redmond giant the exposure it needs to court consumers into switching from Google's massively more popular services that come preloaded on all Android devices," SamMobile points out.

Coming back to Samsung's own software, the TouchWiz UI on the Galaxy S6 is reportedly far faster compared to the Android Lollipop on the Galaxy Note 4. Moreover, Samsung has apparently borrowed many effects and animations Lollipop brought along and the upcoming Galaxy S6 should deliver an impressive visual experience.

It remains unclear at this point just what bloatware apps Samsung has ditched from its new smartphone, but features such as S Voice, S Note, S Health, Scrapbook and others may come as downloadable apps.

If rumors turn out to be true and the Galaxy S6 comes with improved software, better specs, and a more premium design, Samsung may just hit the jackpot with its next-generation flagship. Until a formal unveiling, however, it all remains in the rumor state.

Samsung has scheduled a special Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event for March 1 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Spain, which means that we'll soon get the official scoop straight from the source. In the meantime, take everything with a grain of salt.
