Microsoft is spicing up two of its most popular smartphones, announcing new versions of the Lumia 930 and Lumia 830 with gold finishes.
Ever since Apple launched its iPhone 5S back in 2013, gold has become a very popular color option for smartphones. Other companies followed suit and gold avatars became the new must-have for high-end smartphones, and Microsoft is now ready to join the party as well.
The company has announced new versions of its Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 smartphones, adding gold-trimmed models for a more stylish look. Both handsets have proved to be quite popular among consumers ever since they hit the market, and the new color options are expected to boost their popularity even further.
"Make a big, bold statement this year with the new golden Lumia 830 and Lumia 930," Microsoft touted in a new announcement on Thursday, Jan. 8, on its rebranded Lumia Conversations blog.
"The Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 will be available in black or white with a premium gold finish."
As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 930 made its debut back in April 2014, launching as the global version of the much-touted Verizon Lumia Icon. The Lumia 930 was also one of the first smartphones specifically made with Microsoft's new Windows Phone 8.1 in mind, and stirred lots of interest since the very beginning. The handset launched in a range of bright color options including orange, white, and green, and now it will be available with gold touches as well.
The Lumia 830 is more recent, as it just hit the market a few months back. This model comes with mid-range specs on board and proved to be a popular choice among Windows Phone fans, and the new color option should make it more appealing to a wider audience.
Keep in mind, however, that Microsoft is not launching gold versions of the smartphones, but gold-trimmed models. This means that the two new models will not be golden all around, they will simply sport a gold trim finish for the black and white variants.
When it comes to availability, the Nokia Lumia 930 black/gold model will go on sale later this week, while the white/gold model will debut later this month. The gold-trimmed Lumia 830, meanwhile, will become available next month in Europe, Asia Pacific, China, India, and select markets across the Middle East and Asia. Pricing for both models will vary across the board, depending on market.
