The much-rumored Sony Xperia Z4 is now the star of a fresh leak, appearing in some new images allegedly showing the device front and center.

The Sony Xperia Z4 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of 2015 and, as often in such cases, the rumor mill is going into overdrive trying to anticipate what's to come. The handset has been widely speculated so far and various contradicting reports have surfaced recently, with different sources pointing in different directions. It's quite hard to determine at this point just which leaks are accurate and which are not, but some new images now claim to show the device in all its (blurred) glory.

Phone Arena has apparently gotten its hands on some images taken at Sony's lab, allegedly showing the Xperia Z4 front and center with a 5.2-inch display. The publication claims to have received this images from a source within the company.

"A fairly aggravated insider sent us a screenshot from what they claim is an internal presentation about the Z4, where the phone is shown to have a 5.2" 1080p display, apparently in response to the wild rumors about a 5.4" Quad HD Triluminos display, or the 5.5" one we heard about before," Phone Arena reports.

Based on these images, the handset's overall design brings no surprises, as it's pretty much what we've come to expect from Sony's OmniBalance appearance.

Some slight changes can still be noticed, however. This purported Sony Xperia Z4, for instance, appears to have the earpiece, as well as the bottom speaker, moved closer to the top edge. The Xperia Z3, by contrast, has these pieces towards the screen, while the same components are barely visible on the Xperia Z3v variant. On the software side, the newly-leaked images show the handset running an updated Android 5.1 Lollipop.

When it comes to hardware specifications, the Sony Xperia Z4 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch IPS display with a full HD resolution of 1080 pixels and pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz under the hood, paired with 3GB of RAM. The handset will reportedly boast Sony's new 21-megapixel Exmor IMX230 camera sensor as well. Considering that other smartphone OEMs have already moved to QHD resolutions and are looking to pack the latest Snapdragon 810 processor in their 2015 flagships, these purported specifications for the Xperia Z4 would not be the latest and greatest for an ultimate flagship.

On the other hand, previous reports have indicated that the Xperia Z4 would come with a 5.4 or 5.5-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, pack the 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, and rock 4GB of RAM.

It remains to be seen which rumors will prove to be accurate and which not, but for now it is best to take everything with a grain of salt.
