New Sony Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Ultra smartphones are expected to debut at CES 2015, and more details have now surfaced in this regards.
With the tech world advancing at such a rapid pace, Sony's current strategy seems to be launching a flagship smartphone only to launch another flagship less than one year later. It happened with the Xperia Z2 and the current Xperia Z3, and now an Xperia Z4 seems set to arrive in a little more than two months.
The purported Xperia Z4 has leaked before, but this time it stars in a more consistent leak with details on its specs and features. Phone Arena claims to have received a tip that both the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Ultra will make their official debut at the CES 2015 trade show in Las Vegas on Jan. 5, and has more details on the matter.
Xperia Z4 leaked specs
According to the publication's source, the Sony Xperia Z4 will sport a 5.4-inch Quad HD Triluminos display, which means a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Under the hood, the device will reportedly pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, which sounds more believable than previous rumors claiming that it would rock the very latest Snapdragon 810. Qualcomm just released its Snapdragon 810-powered MDP smartphone, and it seemed rather unlikely that the Xperia Z4 would already boast the latest chipset when it debuts in January.
The tipster further told Phone Arena that the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 would feature 4GB of RAM and run the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. When it comes camera capabilities, the Xperia Z4 will reportedly offer the same 20.7-megapixel resolution, but sport a new-generation sensor and two additional lens elements for collecting more light. The front shooter, meanwhile, will consist of a 4.8-megapixel sensor with wide-angle view. A 3,420 mAh battery will reportedly keep everything up and running.
Lastly, the next-generation Sony Xperia Z4 is expected to sport thinner bezels at the top and bottom of the display, as well as more rounded corners.
Xperia Z4 Ultra leaked specs
The larger Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra, meanwhile, will reportedly come with a massive 5.9-inch Triluminos display and the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 4GB of RAM as the Xperia Z4, but have a lower-resolution 16-megapixel camera with dual LED flash. The Xperia Z4 Ultra will reportedly boast an ultra-thin chassis, which sounds plausible considering that the original Xperia Z Ultra launched as the world's thinnest smartphone.
Not too long ago, Sony unveiled its new IMX230 sensor with a 20.7-megapixel resolution, rocking image plane detection auto focus, 192-point autofocus, and more top-notch specs. The company said at the time that it was also planning to make a 16-megapixel version of that sensor, which would fall in line with this new leak pointing at an updated 20.7-megapixel rear shooter for the Xperia Z4 and a 16-megapixel camera for the Xperia Z4 Ultra.
Keep in mind, however, that these leaked specifications remain unconfirmed at this point, so it's best to take them with a grain of salt.
