The new Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2 Windows convertible is now officially available for purchase, selling for a $979 starting price.

Sporting an 11.6-inch Full HD display, an Intel Core M Broadwell processor under the hood, and a detachable keyboard dock which allows users to switch between tablet and notebook modes, the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2 is a premium device designed with the enterprise market in mind.

Lenovo took the wraps off its ThinkPad Helix 2 earlier this year, at the IFA 2014 trade show back in September, and the device has now officially hit commercial availability in the U.S.

While the ThinkPad Helix 2 is aimed at the enterprise market, it can actually benefit anyone who wants a 2-in-1 ultrabook that is both compact and powerful, sporting a sturdy design and a long battery life, as well as TrackPoint navigation.

"Use your Helix as a Tablet or snap it into an external keyboard to use it as a fully capable Laptop PC, or display in Tent or Stand Modes. Should you want to use it as a Desktop, simply attach it to a dock for use with a larger monitor, full-sized mouse and keyboard, etc. Get adaptability on your terms," Lenovo touts on the product page.

"The ThinkPad Helix includes a detachable keyboard for on-the-go productivity. Choose from one of two distinct models. The Ultrabook Keyboard offers additional USB and HDMI connectivity, and TouchPad navigation. Or, enhance your productivity even further with the Ultrabook Pro Keyboard featuring a second battery for up to 12 hours' of battery life, adjustable viewing angles, support for Stand and Tent modes, and legendary, precision TrackPoint navigation."

With a $979 starting price, the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2 is also more affordable compared with its predecessor, which launched last year with a $1679 starting price.

The base model of the second-generation Thinkpad Helix comes with an Intel Core M 5Y10 processor under the hood, an 11.6-inch full HD 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, a keyboard dock, an active digitizer, and digital pen. A more advanced model, meanwhile, comes with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a more powerful Core M 5Y70 processor under the hood.

Other specs of the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2, regardless of model, include a USB 3.0 port, microSD card slot for additional memory, stereo speakers, and micro HDMI output.

The new ThinkPad Helix 2 is also among the first devices to rock Intel's new Core M chips, which use slightly more power than an Atom processor but offer arguably better performance in terms of CPU and graphics.
