Motorola recently launched its budget-friendly Moto G and now the company has released Android 4.4.2 KitKat "in record time" for the smartphone.

The Moto G has drawn the attention of masses due to its very affordable price tag unlocked, as the smartphone costs just $179 contract-free. As one would expect, it is not a high-end smartphone with top-of-the-line specifications, which makes it all the more exciting that it's now getting the very latest version of Android.

The smartphone launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, and the fact that it's already getting an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat is a pretty big deal. High-end flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One have just received Android 4.3 updates, with only their GPE editions getting a taste of the latest Android.

Motorola had promised to update the Moto G to KitKat in January 2014, but it now seems that the company has done its best to deliver the update sooner.

"We don't know about you, but over the past few weeks we've had visions of KitKats dancing in our heads. We're excited to tell you we're starting to roll out Android 4.4.2, KitKat - the very latest version - TODAY on Moto G!" boasted Motorola in a blog post on Thursday, Dec. 19.

"What better way to kick off The Download - a regular feature that gives you the scoop on the many software updates we are rapidly cranking out. In addition to the roll out of KitKat on Moto G, our software team has been busy as elves in a workshop shipping new features for you."

The new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is rolling out now to Moto G devices purchased from Motorola or Amazon in the U.S. The same update package will become available to other Moto G carriers and regions soon, noted the company.

The update will bring along several neat new features, including the ability to print images and photos straight from your smartphone. KitKat will also bring improved camera features, enhanced touchless controls, and more. To get more details on the new update and what it has to offer, check out Motorola's release notes.
