Skype issues have been plaguing the messaging experience for many users, but Microsoft promised to make everything better soon.

Those who use Skype on a frequent basis are most likely too familiar with the service's various issues, such as missed messages, out-of-sync chats, or blasts of old messages blurted out all at once.

Microsoft has acknowledged these issues and is working to fix them shortly, Skype product manager Jeff Kunis told The Verge in an interview. As Skype previously explained, Microsoft's shift from peer-to-peer networks for Skype to cloud-powered servers was the root cause for most of the reported issues.

While Skype used to be the top choice for voice and video calling on desktop PCs, the world has moved to mobile and an increasing number of Internet users are going online from their phones or tablets. Skype failed to adapt its infrastructure quickly enough, thus causing problems when accessing the service on multiple devices.

"It's not that we've been trying our best to be amazing at chat for 10 years and sucking at it, it's that we've been doing a great job doing what we were born to do and now people want more of us and we're making the investments to expand and be great at that too," said Kunins. "We're not there yet, but we will be."

Microsoft is reportedly testing some updates to its client apps, which will finally allow for full message syncing across all devices. Moreover, Skype plans to include a message "read" or "unread" feature as well. According to The Verge, Kunins demonstrated updated versions of Windows Phone and Windows desktop apps that can properly sync messages across multiple devices, while only triggering notifications on the active device.

"You'll see us very soon begin rolling that out so users get the benefit of cloud history, synced read state across all of your devices."

Another issue marring the Skype experience involves call states, as some devices often keep ringing even after another device picked up the call. Microsoft is working on fixing this problem as well, but not at the same time as the messaging issues. Kunins did not offer an exact timeframe for when these updates will start rolling out, but it shouldn't be too long now.
