Amazon has a new offer in place for Nokia fans, selling the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020 for a reduced price tag of $149.99 with a two-year contract.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 stirred quite some waves upon its announcement, as the handset boasts a whopping 41-megapixel PureView camera, the highest-end camera currently available on a smartphone. While the technology was impressive, however, the price raised even more brows - and not in a good way.
Nokia launched its Lumia 1020 exclusively on AT&T, with a steep price tag of $299.99 on a two-year contract. That's more than most flagships cost, including the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One or the newly-launched iPhone 5S. The Nokia Lumia 1020 later received a $100 price cut in the U.S., but the new $199.99 price tag was still considered a bit high. Excluding the unparalleled 41-megapixel camera, $199.99 could buy a smartphone with far better specifications.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 finally seems to have dropped to a more affordable price point, as Amazon is now offering the AT&T Windows Phone 8 smartphone for $149.99 on a two-year contract. The retailer previously had an even more attractive offer for the Lumia 1020, selling it for $99.99, but that was obviously a limited-time offer since the price is now $149.99.
As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the camera phone packs a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage capacity and runs on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system.
The 41-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics and optical image stabilization (OIS) was the only thing justifying that insane initial price tag for some, but most consumers were not willing to pay that much for a subsidized phone.
Amazon's new price point for the Nokia Lumia 1020 undercuts AT&T's own pricing, as the carrier is offering the handset for $199.99. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, the more attractive $149.99 price point may lure more buyers to the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020.
The retailer doesn't mention whether this is a limited-time offer like the $99 one was, but interested buyers might want to take advantage of it while it's available. Find the $149.99 Nokia Lumia 1020 at this link.
