The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean tablets are now available for purchase for $150 and $180, respectively.
The two slates mark the PC maker's comeback to the tablet market and aim to challenge 7- and 8-inch tablets with a budget-friendly price tag. As their name itself suggests, one tablet has a 7-inch screen while the other sports an 8-inch display. Other than that, the two slates are identical.
Both tablets pack Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processors clocked at 2GHz and both have the same 1280 x 800 resolution on their respective screen sizes. Both the Venue 7 and Venue 8 slates come with Android Jelly Bean on board, with a future update to Android 4.4 KitKat promised once Google officially releases it.
The company said that both the Venue 7 and Venue 8 will have front and rear cameras, but it did not specify the number of pixels. The slates will be available in 4G variants as well, but Dell has only provided pricing details for the Wi-Fi-only models so far.
"The Dell Venue 7 and 8 tablets are conveniently compact, yet still deliver stunning HD wide-angle viewing so others can watch," reads the tablets' description on the company's website. "You'll enjoy tons of other fantastic features like mobile broadband and Intel Atom processors delivering extraordinary battery life and lightning-fast web browsing. Choose from a 7" or 8" HD screen with both front and back cameras."
Dell aims to compete at the budget-friendly, smaller-sized segment of the tablet market with its new Venue 7 and Venue 8 Android Jelly Bean tablets. The two new Dell slates, however, will have to face tough competitors such as the Google Nexus 7, the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, the upcoming iPad Mini 2 with Retina display, and others.
The tablet market is already crowded and highly competitive, but the budget-friendly prices might help Dell attract customers to its new Android slates. The specs look good for the pricing, but it remains to be seen whether the Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 will draw enough interest to make it against rivals.
