Apple has sent out invitations to a media event it is holding on Oct. 22, where the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 are expected to debut.
The invitations confirm previous reports that the company would make its big iPad unveilings on this date. The company is also expected to announce new Macbooks, as well as OS X Mavericks.
"We still have a lot to cover," touts the colorful event invite from Apple.
The big event will take place in San Francisco, California, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater. It remains unclear at this point, however, whether a live-stream will be available. When the company held its iPhone event back in September, it offered a satellite video stream of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C unveiling from Cupertino in Tokyo, Berlin and Beijing. According to a new 9to5Mac report, Apple may stream the iPad event in London at the Kings Place hall at 6 PM local time.
The fifth-generation iPad, which is expected to make its debut at the event, will reportedly sport a thinner and lighter design, borrowing cues from the iPad Mini. The slate is also rumored to pack Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip and an improved camera, among other things.
The second-generation iPad Mini, meanwhile, is expected to finally boast a Retina display, as well as an A7 chip. The smaller version of the Apple tablet should also debut at the event, alongside the full-size iPad 5.
Other rumors have suggested that Apple's new tablets, or at least the iPad 5, would sport the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Apple introduced the Touch ID recently with its new iPhone 5S and the technology has stirred a great deal of controversy. There is no proof, however, that the upcoming iPads will indeed pack a fingerprint scanner, so take these rumors with a grain of salt until Apple officially unveils its new tablets.
If the company follows a similar launch schedule as in previous years, the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 should go on sale sometime in November. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
