New images of the Sony Honami have leaked and are clearer than ever before, apparently confirming the Xperia Z1 name for the handset.

The Sony Xperia Z1, codenamed "Honami," is set to launch in less than a week, but leaks continue to pile up ahead of the big announcement. The latest leak shows the handset in more detail than ever before and shows the name Xperia Z1 on the device's display.

The high-quality photos come from Chinese publication 365dian (via Xperiablog) and show the smartphone's massive screen in all its glory. As previously rumored, the Honami moniker again seems to be just a codename, while the handset would officially launch as the Xperia Z1.

The latest leaked images further indicate that the Xperia Z1/ Honami will boast a 20.7-megapixel camera with a 1/2.3-inch chip, as previously rumored. Sony reportedly aims to take on the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Samsung Galaxy Zoom with its upcoming smartphone, as recent trends seem to favor camera smartphones.

Previous reports have also suggested that the upcoming Sony Honami would sport similar specs to the company's current Xperia Z flagship, including water- and dust-resistance, a quad-core processor and a 5-inch high-definition screen. The new smartphone would, however, boast a larger 3,000 mAh battery.

The purported Sony Honami also appears to be slightly thicker than the current Xperia Z. The fact that the headphone jack doesn't seem to be covered further indicates that the handset will be waterproof, just like the current flagship.

Sony started a whole new trend with its waterproof devices and it caught on, with rival manufacturers such as Samsung starting to offer waterproof devices of their own. Given the success of this feature, it would make sense for Sony to keep going on the right track and release its new Honami, or Xperia Z1, with waterproof capabilities as well. A teaser from Sony itself leaves virtually no doubt that it will indeed be waterproof.

The company is expected to take the wraps off its latest Honami Xperia Z1 smartphone on Sept. 4 at the IFA trade show in Berlin. Coincidentally (not), Samsung will introduce its new-generation Galaxy Note 3 phablet on the same date. Excitement is already building up ahead of the big unveilings but we'll keep you posted.
