A mid-range Nokia Lumia 729 with PureView camera technology seems to be heading to Verizon, as a new press render image has leaked.
The leaked photo shows a bright yellow Lumia 729 smartphone sporting PureView branding on its rear, suggesting that the handset's camera will feature Nokia's much-hyped PureView technology.
The new leak surfaced online courtesy of WMPoweruser, which claims that the Nokia Lumia 729 is bound for Verizon Wireless in the U.S.
The purported Nokia Lumia 729 is rumored to launch as a Verizon version of the Nokia Lumia 720, but the two smartphones don't seem too similar in terms of appearance and design.
According to WMPoweruser, the upcoming Verizon Nokia Lumia 729 will be placed below the Lumia 928 and the Lumia 822 in the carrier's Lumia lineup. The newly leaked image does not include any details regarding the Lumia 729's specs and features, but the smartphone is expected to pack very similar internals to the Lumia 720.
Although WMPoweruser claims that the purported Nokia Lumia 729 is headed to Verizon, there is no carrier branding on this alleged press render, which makes it rather suspect. The inclusion of a PureView camera is also intriguing for a mid-range handset, although it will likely not match the quality of the new 41-megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020.
Sporting a PureView camera would, nonetheless, make the Lumia 729 the best camera phone in the mid-range segment of the market. It would also mark a significant boost over the Nokia Lumia 720.
The publication makes no mention of pricing or release date for this alleged device set to join Verizon's lineup. Big Red is already carrying the aforementioned Nokia Lumia 928 and Lumia 822 Windows Phone handsets. If this report proves to be accurate and a new mid-range Lumia 729 makes its debut on Verizon's network, the carrier may decide to retire the Lumia 822. On the other hand, the leaked image doesn't exactly scream authenticity.
Neither Nokia nor Verizon have confirmed such plans, which means that this report remains in the rumor state for now. Until the Nokia Lumia 729 becomes official, take things with a grain of salt. The leaked photo itself doesn't seem very credible at all, so it may just be some Photoshop work to stir things up.
