Following a flood of leaks in the past couple of weeks, Acer has finally announced the Acer Iconia W3, an 8.1-inch tablet running Windows 8 at its core. The device comes pre-packed with Microsoft Office 2013, only weighs around 540 grams and measures 11.35 mm thin. Furthermore, the Iconia W3 pairs with an optional Bluetooth keyboard for those who prefer physical keys as opposed to a touch surface.

The Acer Iconia W3 is the first Windows 8 device that comes with an 8.1-inch 1280 x 800 resolution display that is capable of delivering 720p video playback. Both the front and rear cameras of the device are of the 2-megapixel variety, not the best, but still good enough for a Windows 8 tablet that might only be used for more business and less play.

Furthermore, an Intel Atom Z2760 mobile-optimized processor, a battery that should provide up to 8 hours of playtime, and 802.11b/g/n wireless technology, keep the device powered and connected. In addition, the Acer Iconia W3 comes with a micro-HDMI port for connecting to a TV or external display, micro-USB port, and up to 64GB of internal storage. If need be, customers can add an extra 32GB via a micro-SD card.

According to Luca Rossi, vice president of the Consumer Business unit at Acer Europe:

"With the Iconia W3, Acer is giving the millions of students, consumers and professionals who create, read, work and play in the Windows environment a single-handed device that does it all," said Luca Rossi, vice president, consumer business unit, Acer Europe. "These adventurous will enjoy the industry-leading combination of a Windows 8 tablet in a sleek and lightweight 8-inch design, giving them a new and more effective way to take their fun and productivity on the go."

Both the 32GB and 64GB options will cost €329 and €379 respectively. The optional keyboard will be available for a price of €69 and the case will be available for €24.90 (grey) and €27.90 (white).
