HTC's future Galaxy Note competitor is reportedly codenamed "T6" and now more details surface about the rumored large-size HTC One "phablet."
The rumor mill continues to churn about an upcoming supersized smartphone from HTC, expected to sport a 5- to 6-inch display and a similar spec sheet to the HTC One flagship.
Tipster @evleaks, who supplied accurate information about various devices many times before, now adds a new piece to the puzzle: the codename for HTC's upcoming Android phablet device. This new tip falls in line with a previous leak from HTCSoku, who spotted the HTC T6 in a Linux string with several stellar versions: Cassiopeia, Columba, Delphinus, Crater and Eridanus.
These variants will also support a wide range of wireless networks. The handsets have different radios depending on region and one of those variants include radios that support Verizon's 4G LTE network. Verizon Wireless was not invited to the HTC One party so far, but its customers still hope to get the popular smartphone. If the HTC One is off the table, perhaps an HTC T6 phablet will make amends.
In a Yahoo Live Chat called "Has HTC topped Apple and Samsung with this phone?" HTC executives answered various questions from people online. When asked whether the HTC One will finally make its way to Verizon, HTC's director of public relations Tom Harlin said the company did not announce anything. That much we already knew.
"There are tons of rumors online but we haven't made any official announcement about HTC One coming to Verizon," said Harlin. "The DROID DNA continues to be the HTC hero smartphone at Verizon. It launched in late 2012, its features still compete with products in 2013."
"When we announce our next product with Verizon, we'll make a big deal about it so you're all aware," added the executive.
If rumors prove to be true and the HTC T6 phablet is headed to Verizon as well, Verizon customers might lose the grudge for not having access to the HTC One. The HTC One phablet codenamed T6 is expected to boast some of the best features of the HTC One, including its stylish aluminum unibody case.
While the T6 codename might suggest a 6-inch display, the screen will probably be above 5 inches and below 6 inches. Keep in mind, however, that although @evleaks proved very reliable in the past, HTC made no official announcement regarding a HTC One phablet yet.
