TV viewers in the UK got a glimpse of Nokia's next Lumia device, as the company touts the new smartphone in a TV ad.
The new smartphone starred in an ad break on Channel 4, and the short yet intriguing commercial focusing on the phone's camera hardware capabilities.
The teaser ad aired on Sunday night, May 12, offered few details about the device itself, but the teasing shots of the camera flash and aluminum body seem to confirm recent rumors that Nokia is planning to launch a new camera-centric smartphone. The next Lumia device could sport a 41-megapixel camera using the sensor tech Nokia developed for the PureView 808, its last Symbian device.
Nokia is set to make an announcement in London on May 14, which means the new television commercial is a little teaser ahead of the big unveiling. The commercial, first spotted by The Verge, features the metal back of a phone that has a huge camera lens and a big flash, boasting the text "More than your eyes can see."
As The Verge promptly notes, the phone seems made of metal and looks very similar to the recently leaked "Catwalk" phone, which is expected to pack an aluminum body and a big camera lens.
The "Catwalk" smartphone is expected to sport a 4.5-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a 2,000 mAh battery and 16GB of internal storage. The phone will presumably feature an 8.7-megapixel camera with LED flash.
Some rumors indicate that Nokia will launch a Lumia 925 smartphone, a variant of the recently launched Verizon Lumia 928 (with in turn is a variant of the Lumia 920) at the May 14 event, along with a camera-centric EOS smartphone. The Catwalk was previously rumored to be the Lumia 928, and now some believe it may be the Lumia 925.
Nokia launched the Lumia 928 in the U.S. on Friday, May 10, with mobile carrier Verizon wireless. The phone costs $99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract with the carrier. The Lumia 928 is similar to the Lumia 920, complete with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor and an 8.7-megapixel camera, but is slightly different. The Lumia 928 is lighter than its Lumia 920 sibling and has sharper edges. It also comes in black and white color options compared to the colorful range of the earlier Lumia family.
