It was already reported that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is not going to get the Android update beyond Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but according to new reports, other Samsung devices are not going to see Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie as an Android update.
It is reported that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie supports only quad core processors, so users of Samsung devices have started worrying about the next Android update.
Google is expected to launch the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie during next month's Google I/O, but the next version of Android will not be seen in devices like Samsung Galaxy S3 or Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.
The smaller version of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S4 is also expected to make its debut in some weeks and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is also going to run only Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, as it is rumored to come with a dual-core processor.
Although there is a long list of Samsung smartphones and tablets that are not going to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update because of the absence of a quad-core processor in them, some of the upcoming devices like Samsung Galaxy Trend 2 Duos are also on the list.
The devices that are not going to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update are: Samsung Galaxy S3 (US version), Galaxy S2 , Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Grand Duos, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy S Advanced, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Express, Galaxy S2 Plus, Galaxy Premier, Galaxy Young, Galaxy Young Duos, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Xover 2 and Galaxy Trend 2 Duos.
The list of the devices that are going to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is very small to date. The international version of Galaxy S3 and recently released Galaxy S4 are going to get the update. Other Samsung devices to get the update are: Galaxy Note 8.0 (including LTE and Wi-Fi), Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1.
This news does disappoint many Samsung users, but the users of Samsung Galaxy Grand and Galaxy S3 will be the most disappointed ones.
Samsung recently released the Galaxy Grand and its dual SIM version Galaxy Grand Duos. The smartphone is a hit in some of the emerging markets like India, but as a new and a mid-range smartphone, getting only one Android update is really unacceptable. The Galaxy Grand runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and is powered by a dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.9 GHz.
The users of Galaxy Grand can accept the hard facts and carry on with the next Jelly Bean update, but the situation of Galaxy S3 U.S. owners is completely different. When Galaxy S3 owners in the rest of the world will be enjoying features of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, S3 users in the U.S. will be envying them just because of the processor in their handsets.
The U.S. version of Samsung Galaxy S3 is powered by Qualcomm's dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, unlike its international sibling that comes with the Exynos 4 quad core processor.
