Samsung Galaxy S2 owners may be in for some bad news, as new reports indicate that the smartphone will not get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Amid lots of rumors and anticipation regarding an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, older devices seem to be left out of the update party.

The Galaxy S2 was once a mighty Samsung flagship, but it's glory days seem to be over, at least from Samsung's point of view. The handset shipped with Android 2.3 Jelly Bean on board but received two major updates so far and is currently running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. While one more update to version 4.2.2 seemed to be in the cards, plans were reportedly canceled due to problems with Samsung's TouchWiz Android skin.

According to a new report from German site Connect, however, that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean might never arrive for the Galaxy S2. The publication claims that Android 4.2.2 was originally planned for the smartphone, but "adjustment problems in the TouchWiz interface" stand in the way. In other words, the Samsung Galaxy S2 seems stuck on Android 4.1.2.

While Android 4.2.2 was not a groundbreaking update over the previous 4.1.2 build, some Galaxy S2 owners may still be disappointed to learn that no more updates are in sight for them. Moreover, the original Galaxy Note phablet packs the same hardware as the Galaxy S3, which means that it may be stuck on Android 4.1.2 as well. The Galaxy S2 Plus, meanwhile, seems to have a better fate.

"We can confirm that the newer Galaxy S II Plus will be getting Android 4.2.2, and while we currently don't have info on the normal S II, we'll be doing our best to find out what exactly Samsung's plans are," Sam Mobile reports.

News about the Samsung Galaxy S2 being left on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean might be disappointing for some, but it shouldn't come as a huge surprise. After all, the smartphone is more than two years old and it has already received two major updates to its operating system.
