Google's Pixel hardware division has seen a significant shift in its release timeline and product lineup this year.
With the introduction of four new Pixel phones and a delayed Android 15 update, the company has deviated from its historical patterns. According to the company, the much-needed update won't likely come next month, so this means we will see it in October.
Traditionally, Google has released major Android version updates for its Pixel devices around the same time as the source code becomes available. This close alignment has been a hallmark of the Pixel experience, ensuring timely access to the latest features and security improvements.

However, with the release of Android 12, Google began to deviate from this pattern, according to 9to5Google. The Pixel team no longer guarantees that updates will be released on the same day as the source code, even for monthly security updates. This change allows the team more flexibility to refine updates, address bugs, and align with marketing plans.
The Android 15 update is being withheld to ensure its stability and quality. Google aims to release the update sometime in October, potentially in the middle of the month. This means there could be a significant gap between the release of the source code and the Pixel OTA update.
The delay in the Android 15 update may cause some inconvenience for Pixel users who are eager to experience the latest features and improvements. However, it also indicates Google's commitment to providing a stable and reliable update that is free from major issues.
While the final details of Android 15 are still being finalized, we can expect to see a range of new features and enhancements. The Android 15 QPR1 beta program, which has already begun, offers a glimpse into what users can expect in the December 2024 Pixel Drop.
According to Android Authority, here's the list of Pixel devices that will soon get the update.
Speaking of Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Mobile & Apps reports that it will boast performance improvement including an improved storage and chipset. On top of that, it is expected to be a premium foldable device which might be initially priced at $1,799 for the standard storage option.
