Many of the Wii U releases expected this November will be titles whcih have already been released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Most of the Wii U versions will include all the current downloadable content for each title, which may account for the $60 price on most of the games.
One example is Darksiders 2, developed by Vigil Games. Darksiders 2 was released in August, drawing a strong critical reception. The game follows Death, the second of four horseman. It features dungeons the size of the original Darksiders' overworld, and a focus on loot. The game is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Darksiders 2 for Wii U will include DLC such as Argul's Tomb, along with new dungeons and "several other packs." Wii U's GamePad allows players to navigate their inventories, seemingly the most common functionality at this early stage of Wii U and GamePad development.
Darksiders 2 follows Mass Effect 3 for Wii U in offering all DLC available thus far. EA and BioWare have rolled out free multiplayer add-ons, and they have also expressed a desire to bring single-player content to the game. Players may be curious about how Nintendo will approach post-launch downloadable content. Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC players have very reliable ways of downloading new content (Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or services like Steam and Origin). With Steam's Big Picture Mode nearing release, console-only players may be more attracted to PC gaming.
First-party or exclusive third-party titles will probably be the system-sellers for Nintendo, though. The announcement of Bayonetta 2 as an exclusive to the console caused controversy, and Nintendo is also launching with New Super Mario Bros. U. Consumers who skipped the last generation Wii probably did so largely due to the lack of third-party exclusive titles available for the console.
The company is now offering bonus levels with New Super Mario Bros. 2 for Nintendo DS, a first.
Wii U launches Nov. 18 in the U.S., and Nov. 30 in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Prices for New Zealand were revealed to be significantly higher than those for the U.S.
