While other smartphone manufacturers are already offering devices with 6 or even 8 GB of RAM, Apple is reportedly still sticking with a relatively small amount of RAM for its next generation smartphone.
According to a report from Mac Rumors, a recently published post from Cowen and Company has revealed that all three of the upcoming new iPhones will apparently be equipped with the same 3 GB of RAM as the iPhone 7 Plus. The standard iPhone 7 came with just 2 GB of RAM. Aside from the RAM capacities, the post also outlines the possible internal storage configurations that might be offered.
The report reveals that the storage option will likely be similar to how the iPhone 7 models were laid out. The 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch iPhones are speculated to be coming with 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB internal memory options, while the 5.8-inch iPhone Edition will only come with 64 GB and 256 GB options. Additionally, the report claims that the high-end iPhone Edition could be coming with a significantly larger battery pack compared to the ones on the other two offerings.
The Cupertino-based tech firm has always been stingy with the RAM it equips its devices, but its proprietary iOS operating system is quite refined to the point where it doesn't really need it. However, with apps now becoming heavier to run and people constantly multitasking on their phones, it's still strange that Apple has chosen to go with the same amount of RAM this time around.
According to BGR, despite being offering with the same amount of RAM, the upcoming new iPhone models will still be packing a lot of new features that are not found on its predecessors. The iPhone Edition for one is expected to come with a new edge-to-edge OLED display, likely similar to that found on the Samsung Galaxy S8.
