PCMag has labeled Apple's iPhone 5 the fastest smartphone currently available in the market.

"We crown the iPhone 5 speed king after pitting it against every other iPhone we've tested, along with today's top Android phones," stated PCMag. Furthermore, the report also added "Most high-end phones nowadays run on one of two architectures: ARM's Cortex-A9, which is used by Nvidia, Texas Instruments and others, and Qualcomm's Krait. But the A6, as AnandTech discovered, is something completely different-an ARM-compatible system-on-a-chip designed, top to bottom, by Apple."

PCMag tested the iPhone 5 in a series of performance-based evaluations: browser, general purpose, and graphics. The iPhone 5 surpassed every other iPhone iteration in performance. Moreover, the smartphone overshadowed top android-powered handsets, including Samsung's Galaxy S3.

The iPhone 5 easily ousted the competition for most of the evaluation categories, particularly in browser benchmarks. At the official launch of the iPhone 5, Apple announced that the A6 processor on the iPhone 5 will double the CPU performance of the device when compared to the older iterations. When tested with the rival android phones, the iPhone 5 scored up to 80 percent higher in Browsermark, which is indicative of the speediness of the browser, Safari.

Geekbench is a processor benchmark and tests the basic components of a phone's system. In the Geekbench evaluation (general purpose), the iPhone 5 marginally beat out the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Motorola RAZR M. However, iPhone 5 straggled in memory and stream scores.

GLBenchmark 2.5 is a graphics benchmark, which creates and walks through simulated game scenes. In graphics evaluation, the iPhone 5 is "simply the more powerful phone," doubling Galaxy S3's results.

With the tests PCMag conducted it seems that the iPhone 5 is the clear winner when it comes to speed. However, with Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 (which is equipped with a quad-core Exynos running Jelly Bean) due to hit the shelves soon, it remains to be seen if the iPhone 5 maintain its supremacy.
