In light of the recent threats from Hackers, Apple has now released a statement assuring users that their system has in no way been breached. A hacker, or a group of hackers, recently threatened to remotely wipe millions of iPhones should the company not give in to their demands.
The group, calling themselves the "Turkish Crime Family," allegedly holds over 559 million Apple emails and iCloud accounts. According to Motherboard, the hackers sent out a threat to the company, claiming that they would wipe all of the data, including videos, photos, and messages, from all of the iPhones on their list.
The hackers allegedly have a cache of stolen accounts along with their passwords, but it is still yet not clear where they had acquired the data. The group reportedly wants Apple to pay them $75,000 in either Bitcoin or Ether. The cryptocurrencies are notoriously hard to trace and a payment using either of the two cryptocurrencies would be perfect for hackers who want to clean up their tracks.
Additionally, the hackers are reportedly also settling for $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards. The group also gave Apple until April 7 to give in to their demands or risk the possibility of them making good on their threats. As per a report from Fortune, an Apple spokesperson recently mentioned that they have not experienced any breaches to their security and that if the accounts are indeed authentic, then the hackers must have gotten them from third-party services.
It is not yet clear if the Apple would indeed give in to the hacker's demands, but the company is working closely with authorities, law enforcement, and security agencies to track down the perpetrators. Despite the possibility of the threats being empty, users are still advised to change their passwords to stronger ones to avoid being victims if the threats are indeed authentic.
